Communicating science in the digital age

In the internet age, the number of sources of science news has grown exponentially, as have the tools for scientists to access information and engage with each other. This means scientists now have unprecedented opportunities to reach out to their peers and to the general public. But in a scientific culture where research and publication pressures are all-consuming, why should one take the time to engage in social media? In this talk, I will discuss nascent, but growing, trends in online science communication and how scientists can take advantage of online tools to raise their profiles, and also to enrich their scientific experience.
