脳神経科学研究センター（CBS）は、前身である脳科学総合研究センター（BSI）が20年間にわたって積み上げてきた成果を糧に、日本の脳科学の中核拠点として、医科学・生物学・化学・工学・情報数理科学・心理学などの学際的かつ融合的学問分野を背景に、細胞から個体、社会システムを含む多階層にわたる脳と心のはたらきの基礎研究と革新的技術開発を進めています。同時に、人間の精神は自分自身が生み出した人工知能やビッグデータといった新しい情報世界とどのように対峙するのか、そして、うつ病、認知症等のさまざまな疾患をどのように克服するのか、といった現代社会が直面する課題の解決に向けた脳研究を展開しています。

現在、CBSでは神経科学分野における優れたチームリーダー（tenure-track position, 米国の助教授または准教授に相当）を新たに募集します。また、すでに国際的に傑出した神経科学者からの申請も歓迎いたします（tenured team leaderとして審査, 米国の教授に相当）。今回はCBSにおけるチームリーダー職の初回の公募ですが、今後数年間で約10名の優れたチームリーダーを雇用する予定です。

RIKEN CBSでは、チームリーダーは完全に独立した研究室運営の裁量権を有し、国際的にもトップレベルの研究室立上げ資金を含む内部研究費や優れた共同研究/施設環境などが提供されます。候補者は、独自の、独立した、国際的に競争力のある研究プログラムを開発する能力を実証していなければなりません。分子、細胞、神経回路、システム、または認知レベルで、モデル動物またはヒト被験者を研究対象とする、すべての分野からの応募を歓迎いたします。また、精神医学的/神経学的疾患や計算/理論的アプローチに関心を持つ神経科学者からの応募も歓迎いたします。
初回公募の締め切りは2018年11月末ですが、 定員に達するまで公募は続きます。

Recruitment of new faculty positions (Principal Investigator position)

The RIKEN Center for Brain Science (CBS) is Japan's premier neuroscience research center that builds on the twenty years of research achievements of its predecessor, the RIKEN Brain Science Institute (BSI). Taking advantage of the multidisciplinarity of the fields of medicine, biology, chemistry, engineering, mathematical sciences, and psychology, our aim is to advance basic research on the functions of the brain and the mind—from the levels of single cells and whole organisms to societal systems—and develop innovative technologies in the process. We also aim to find solutions to the issues confronting contemporary society, as we grapple with the psychological ramifications of our own inventions such as artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, and as we seek to conquer diseases such as depression and dementia.

Now we are newly seeking outstanding neuroscientists for tenure-track Team Leader positions (equivalent to U.S. Assistant or Associate Professors). However, exceptional applications from internationally established neuroscientists may be considered for tenured Team Leader positions (equivalent to U.S. Full Professors). This is our first round of faculty recruitment at CBS, and in the coming several years CBS plans to open approximately 10 new Team Leader positions for outstanding neuroscientists.
At RIKEN CBS, Team Leaders have full intellectual independence, generous internal funds including a highly competitive start-up package and access to ample communal facilities in a collaborative environment. Successful candidates for the Team Leader position must have demonstrated the ability to develop an original, independent and internationally competitive research program.
We encourage applications from all disciplines of neuroscience at the molecular, cellular, circuit, systems and/or cognitive levels using any model animals and/or involving human subjects. Neuroscientists with research interests in psychiatric/neurological diseases or computational/theoretical approaches are also encouraged to apply.
Applications received by the end of November 2018 will be screened in the first round of review, although the call will remain open until the
positions are filled.

3.    List of research achievements and publications (separate by category: research papers, review papers, patents, etc.)

5.    Future research plans
6.    Reprints of major research papers you authored (maximum five papers); circle these paper titles in the list of research achievement and publications above (item 3).
7.    Three letters of recommendation (including one from the current supervisor, if available.) Please arrange to have the recommendation letters sent directly from referees to the CBS Search Committee address (see below) as a PDF document prepared as follows:
NB1: Letters of recommendation must be signed (or stamped) by the person writing the letter.
NB2: Letters must be addressed to “Director Yasushi Miyashita, RIKEN Center for Brain Science”.
NB3: If current supervisor's recommendation is not available, a recommendation letter from a third party will be accepted.
NB4: The applicant should inform us (CBS Search Committee) of the referee's title and position, affiliation, telephone number, email address and relationship between the applicant.

In addition to the items 1 to 7 above, during the hiring procedures for successful candidates, a check sheet and a Confirmation of employment duration and duties form and documents for obtaining a work visa for non-Japanese nationals will be required.
